久々のEtsy shop紹介。
最近発見したばかりの木版印刷の布製品専門店、Papa Totoro。
シックな柄と色の組み合わせが絶妙。

オーナーのサハラは、いつもの質問にエッセー形式で答えてくれたので、そのまま掲載します。





My name is Sahara, I'm based in London and I would describe myself as a textile and surface pattern designer.
I produce my fabrics by the hand block printing method using a combination of vintage English and French wallpaper blocks, Indian and Indonesian batik stamps and my own hand carved lino sheets.

ロンドン在住のテキスタイル及び表面パターンのデザイナー、サハラです。
英仏のビンテージの壁紙用版木、インドやインドネシアのバティック版、そしてオリジナルの手彫りリノリウム版を使って、手作業で布を印刷しています。

I am a criminologist by profession but changed my career and lifestyle radically eight years ago when my first child was born. I took the decision to try a creative path which has led me here today.

元は犯罪学者でしたが、8年前に上の子が生まれたときに、キャリアとライフスタイルを180度変えました。クリエーティブな道を追求する決意をして、今の自分がいるのです。

My favourite piece of work changes frequently, i don't have just one as its hard to choose, but if pushed I would say the indigo hampers and pods. I originally visualised an array of patterns against indigo and spent many weeks creating the different pods and patterns. I loved the way they came to life and looked so lovely together.

気に入っている作品はしょっちゅう変わる上、一つだけ選ぶのは難しいのですが、強いて言えば、藍色の大小のバスケットでしょうか。最初に、藍色の上にさまざまなパターンを置くことを思い描き、何週間もかけて異なるバスケットとパターンを組み合わせたのです。アイディアが形になり、出来上がったバスケットを集めて置いたときに素敵に見えたのは、嬉しかったです。

My favourite artists are a bit of an eclectic mix, I love "old school" yet timelessly beautiful animation such as the work of Miyazake.
I also have a passion for pattern and William Morris, one of the founding fathers of the the Pre-Raphaelite era.
And occasionally I come across utterly amazing minds that make creativity look simple such as the Dutchman Theo Jansen, the kinetic sculptor who creates strandbeests.

好きなアートは多岐に渡り、宮崎作品のような伝統的で不朽のアニメーションや、ラファエル前派の祖であるウィリアム・モリス作品に惹かれます。
また、芸術を生み出すことが簡単であるかのように見せてしまう、驚くべき才能を持つアーティストに出会うこともあります。たとえば、オランダのキネティック・アーティスト（動く芸術を作るアーティスト）で、「ストランドビースト」を作るテオ・ヤンセンはそんな一人です。
